This course acts as a foundation course to introduce people to the core themes of the Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies. It has been successfully used to support teachers new to teaching in a Catholic School. It is also designed to help people who are interested in knowing more about the Catholic Faith at an introductory level. It can be used to support parents who are bringing their children to church for sacramental preparation such as baptism and First Communion. The course is delivered via an online app covering 5 modules.
The course helped me to revisit and reflect on what I knew already and also introduced me to new ideas and information. I really like the app because it meant I could just open it on my phone whenever I had some spare time.
Each module takes approximately an hour and a half to complete. Reflection sections, quizzes and the possibility of gaining a certificate upon completion of the course help to keep learners engaged. The course also aims to contribute to and support the underpinning knowledge required to deliver the Religious Education Directory for Catholic Schools. The online format of the ICCS makes it flexible and affordable, as the more people you licence the less each licence costs.
I made the completion of this course a Performance Development target for all teachers and an optional target for Teaching Assistants. I've been impressed with the level of engagement and the positive feedback from all staff. Non-Catholic staff in particular found it really helpful and informative.
The course costs just £18 per person. Start any time. The course must be completed within 12 months.
